NO BLADE OF GLASS No Longer a No-Show!
As part of its of its Warner Bros Archive Collection, WB has just announced the availability of the gory 1970 Brit sci-fi flick NO BLADE OF GRASS on DVD. Directed by acting legend Cornel Wilde, the film takes place after an environmental catastrophe destroys civilization. A couple (Nigel Davenport and Jean Wallace) try to lead their family to safety in a savage world, but sometimes a flight for salvation can become a journey to damnation! Raw, uncompromising and violent, the film was years ahead of its time. Rare screenings of the film over the years have been eagerly sought out by fans of extreme cinema, and its now available on home video in a full, uncut remastered 16x9 edition. The Archive Collection is also making available the 1981 slasher pic NIGHT SCHOOL, with Rachel Ward making her “scream” debut. The film will also be presented remastered and 16x9. A batch of “60s Psycho-Delic” includes Antonio Margeriti’s Gamma Station sci-fi epic THE SNOW DEVILS (1967), producer Herman Cohen’s long-awaited shocker BLACK ZOO (1963) starring the great Michael Gough and THE COUCH (1962), from a story by Robert Bloch. A duo of “Hammer It Home” features from Britain’s famous house of horror, gives us Freddie Francis’ psychological thriller HYSTERIA (1965) and Roy Ward Baker’s space adventure MOON ZERO TWO (1969) (previously available as a Best Buy Exclusive double feature disc with WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH). On
August 8th, Olive Films will release “one of the most requested
horror films”, THE BOOGENS (1981)
on both Blu-Ray and DVD. In a small town near Denver, two young men
begin to explore a long-abandoned old mine recently re-opened by a group
of minors. When one the men is discovered missing, his friends begin
a search that leads them to horrifying consequences. They’re all
unaware of the evil that’s been unleashed and soon, one by one,
a monster that no one has seen snatches up the townspeople. Suddenly,
the grisly truth is revealed and a young couple is forced to confront
the unknown in order to save their lives… and the entire town.
Directed by James L. Conway (HANGER 18). The film will be newly mastered
in HD from an archival 35mm print, and the release will include an audio
commentary with director Conway, star Rebecca Balding and screenwriter
David O’Malley. The Blu-Ray will retail for $29.95 and the DVD
for $24.94.

Macabro is proud to present the official director’s cut of Jess
Franco's outrageous and delirious COUNTESS PERVERSE.
Newly restored from a rare camera negative, this limited-edition DVD
arrives on June 12th with a S.R.P. of $24.99. In the 1973 film starring
Howard Vernon and Alice Arno, a pair of decadent and debauched aristocrats
turns their private island into a human hunting ground where they can
stalk their naked prey. As each victim is murdered, their carcass is
then cooked and fed to their guests; simply delicious! What the unsuspecting
visitors don't realize is that they will soon become the next evening’s
“meal”, eventually fighting for their lives in a shocking
and flesh-baring cat-and-mouse game. The disc will carry a brand new
transfer from the original negative, and extras include an interview
with actor Robert Woods, extensive production notes and introduction
by film critic Stephen Thrower and Mondo Macabro DVD previews.

OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1956) on both Blu-ray and DVD. It will
be restored in HD from the finegrain 35mm film element. One of the greatest
and most influential Sci-Fi films of all time stars Kevin McCarthy as
a doctor in a small California town whose patients are becoming hysterical
and accuse their loved ones as emotionless imposters. Plant-like extra-terrestrials
have invaded Earth, replicating the villagers in giant seed “pods”
and taking position of their souls while they sleep. Realizing that
the epidemic is out of control, in a terrifying race for his life, he
escapes to warn the world of the deadly invasion of the pod people!
Directed by the great Don Siegel (DIRTY HARRY) and co-starring Dana
Wynter, Carolyn Jones, Larry Gates and King Donovan. Presented in anamorphic
Superscope (2.00:1) widescreen, the DVD will retail for $19.95 and the
Blu-ray for $29.95.

May 15th, Scorpion Releasing, in conjunction with Camelot Entertainment,
presents MORTUARY. Bill Paxton, Christopher
George, and Lynda Day George star in this chilling tale of horror-filled
nightmares that comes startlingly close to reality! Christie Parson
(Mary McDonough) has been having terrifying nightmares ever since her
father drowned in the family swimming pool. She knows his death was
not an accident, but no one believes her. That is, until her boyfriend
Greg (David Wallace) sees a hooded figure, identical to the one that
Christie has described as being in her nightmares, in the town's mortuary.

to abduct unsuspecting female victims with their magic tricks for an
international ring of white slave traders. The film also stars Martha

is releasing the 1967 circus horror classic BERSERK
as part of its “Screen Classics By Request” collection.
Joan Crawford stars as Monica Rivers, the owner of a traveling circus
plagued by a series of mysterious deaths. When a high-wire performer
becomes the first victim, he is replaced by Frank Hawkins (Ty Hardin),
an even more daring aerialist. But Frank's attentions to Monica make
her business manager, Dorando (Michael Gough), jealous. After Dorando

Films has just confirmed to us that they will be releasing the 1958
Paramount science fiction classic THE COLOSSUS
OF NEW YORK on DVD this August. Directed by Eugène Lourié
(THE GIANT BEHEMOTH, GORGO), the film stars Ross Martin, Otto Kruger,
John Baragrey and Mala Powers, and this will be the first time the tale
of a dead scientist who's brain is transplanted into that of a giant
robot has been given a legit home video release in the U.S. Olive Films
will also be working on a DVD release of the 1952 Paramount film THE
ATOMIC CITY, starring Gene Barry. More details to follow!

Films has surprised us with a May 3 street date for a blu-ray double
feature disc containing THE MAN WHO COULD CHEAT
DEATH and THE SKULL. This two-disc
collection is filled with suspense and terror as it features classic,
bone-chilling tales from two of the biggest horror powerhouse producers:
Hammer Studios and Amicus Productions. THE SKULL weaves a chilling tale
surrounding the real-life terrors of the Marquis de Sade. Featuring
outstanding performances by Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, this
tale introduces Dr. Christopher Maitland (Cushing) who purchases the
infamous skull of the Marquis de Sade, a decision that he was warned
against by his good friend - and previous skull owner - Matthew Phillips
(Lee). The question is whether or not Dr. Maitland will live to regret
his decision. THE MAN WHO COULD CHEAT DEATH features a horror filled
tale starring Anton Diffring as Dr. Georges Bonnet, a man with a hideous
obsession to live forever all he needs are the glands of some very unwilling

May 17, RaroVideo U.S. will release THE SECRET
OF DORIAN GRAY (1970) on DVD. Never before released on DVD in
the U.S., this is a 1970s classic Italian film restored to its original
splendor. In London, a wealthy, god-like, young man, Dorian Gray, loves
Sybil, an aspiring actress; thanks to her, he’s momentarily less
self-centered. He’s also sitting, scantily clad, for a portrait
painted by his ascot-wearing friend, Basil. When it’s done, Dorian
complains he’ll grow old while it stays unchanged – the
classic plight of the vain. On the same night, as if he has sold his
soul to the devil, exchanging vanity for morality, he ends it with Sybil,
and then accepts the seductive offer of a party’s hostess to sleep
with her. The next day, the painting looks slightly older. In horror
and fascination, Dorian hides it away and continues a life of degradation.
Over time, as the portrait becomes hideous, he’s unchanged by
his ever-increasing libidinal life; finally, he and Basil face the painting.
The exceptionally groovy score by Giuseppe De Luca enhances the seventies
milieu. The film stars Helmut Berger, Richard Todd, Herbert Lom, Marie
Liljedahl and Margaret Lee. DORIAN GRAY has been restored from the original
35mm negative and will include an interview with the assistant director
Maurizio Tanfani.

This singular film from Hammer Studios, set in the Stone Age, has almost
no dialogue — the people speak in grunts — but it is strangely
effective. Focused on a tribe of cavemen, and specifically a pair of
twin brothers who become rivals for the leadership of the tribe following
the impact of a devastating earthquake, the human struggles are portrayed
fairly realistically (no dinosaurs roaming the earth). Directed by Don
Chaffey (JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS, ONE MILLION YEARS B.C.), whose ability
to craft an engaging, human story with mythical characters and beasts
was well-proven by the time he undertook this feature. Written by veteran

with Dennis. Chris invites Dennis back to dinner in Sander’s house.
The three of them get along quite well together and Dennis asks to spend

Films recently announced that its future release slate includes the
slasher classic BLOODY BIRTHDAY (perhaps
best remembered for the before-she-was-famous topless dance of MTV star
Julie Brown) directed by Canadian exploitation auteur Ed Hunt. In a
recent interview recorded exclusively for this DVD, Hunt discusses his
entire career and the film was transferred from the original negative
in hi-definition, so this will be BLOODY BIRTHDAY as you’ve never
seen it before! Severin is also planning a DVD of John Lamond’s
Australian horror flick NIGHTMARES (aka

The late Al Adamson’s (DRACULA VS.
FRANKENSTEIN) G-rated talking monkey movie has been the source of rumors
and wild speculation for nearly 30 years. Some insist only a single
print was ever made, while others claim the film never saw the light
of day until a copy was “found” in Adamson’s Florida
home shortly after he was murdeed. (

Mikel's THE BLACK KLANSMAN. A light-skinned
African-American impersonates a Caucasian and joins the notorious Ku
Klux Klan to get revenge on the bigots who bombed a church and killed

Twentieth
Century Fox Home Entertainment announced that it has concluded an arrangement
with Allied Vaughn that will allow MGM to expand retail distribution
of MGM’s Limited Edition Collection of previously-unreleased DVD
titles through an innovative distribution program. This program is called
“manufacturing on demand” (“MOD”). MOD allows
retailers to offer MGM’s Limited Edition Collection for sale on
their websites without ever having to order product upfront because
each DVD is “custom built” for a specific consumer order
that is placed on a retailer’s website. This strategy now gives
retailers the opportunity to offer MGM titles that they might not be
offering to consumers. Initially, more than fifty films will be included
in MGM’s Limited Edition Collection with an expansion plan to
release over 400 new to DVD titles within the next 18 months. The first
wave of titles include ROLLING THUNDER
(1977), DIARY OF A MADMAN (1963), FUTUREWORLD
(1976), THE SATAN BUG (1965), THE
PRIVATE FILES OF J. EDGAR HOOVER (1977), VIGILANTE
FORCE (1976) and CAPTAIN KIDD AND THE SLAVE
GIRL (1954). Some of the titles will include the original trailer
and they will have an SRP of $19.98.

In
celebration of the film’s 45th anniversary, a special DVD collector’s
edition of the iconic cult favorite MONSTER A-GO
GO is being released just in time for Halloween, Oct. 19, from
Synergy Entertainment. Originally
released in 1965, it was billed as “The picture that could set
our space program back at least 50 years.” Voted “The Worst
Movie Ever” by Mystery Science Theater 3000 (and just about everyone
else), it’s so bad it’s good! Directed
by Bill Rebane (who also brought you 1975’s THE GIANT SPIDER INVASION)
and Herschell Gordon Lewis (known for his exploitation films and often
referred to as the “Godfather of Gore”), MONSTER A-GO GO
was initially released in 1965. (

October, Severin Films will release the British horror classic CRUCIBLE
OF TERROR on DVD. His name was Mike Raven, the popular Pirate
Radio DJ and known occultist whose spectacularly failed attempt at 1970s
horror stardom marked one of the most bizarre careers in British movie
history. And in his most infamous role of all, Raven stars as an insane
sculptor whose obsession with the perfect female form leads to a nightmare
of sex, sorcery and slaughter. Within a year of this film’s release,
Raven would mysteriously disappear from the entertainment business forever…to

With
the great treatment they’ve been giving their cult films as of
late, it’s inevitable that Sony will release CORRUPTION
on DVD. This 1968 shocker stars genre icon Peter Cushing as a mad plastic
surgeon who accidentally disfigures his model girlfriend, becoming obsessed
with restoring her face and resorting to murder and such to do so. Sometimes
referred to as Cushing’s “sleaziest movie,” CORRUPTION
would be great as part of a multi-film DVD set, and its swinging 1960s
vibe would also make it perfect for the “Martini Movies”
