Mr. Blair made the following statement: “We pride ourselves in our DVD productions and this is embarrassing! When a mistake like this happens we fix it immediately. For over 30 years VCI has stood by our mission statement to bring our consumers the best in quality from our line of classic and cult films.” VCI will begin an immediate recall of the problem DVD’s and will replace them as soon as the corrected DVD master can be replicated. All direct wholesale and retail customers should contact a VCI Customer Service Rep by calling 800-331-4077, emailing to vci@vcient.com, or faxing to 918-254-6117 to make arrangements. Lions Gate Films has announced the second string of classic AIP titles from the Arkoff Film Library, with two double-feature sets due out on April 18. TEENAGE CAVEMAN: Before he was in “The Man From U.N.C.L.E”, Robert Vaughn starred in this intelligent quickie directed by Roger Corman in 10 days for $70,000. As the restless son of the caveman tribe's symbol maker, Vaughn hunts for food, romances a blonde maiden, and is warned by the elders not to venture beyond the river to the land of the monster "that Gives Death with its Touch." There is no word as to whether or not these will be widescreen, but we seriously doubt it.

Dark Sky Films Introduces Cult Classics Line of DVDs!

Dark Sky Films, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MPI Home Video, is a new label whose mission is “to deliver the highest quality in classic horror, grindhouse, oddities and 'lost' films to fans of the more eclectic genres of home entertainment.” On August 30, Dark Sky will release the German thriller, THE COLLEGE GIRL MURDERS (1967), based on a story by Edgar Wallace. “The groovalicious swingin' '60s, complete with miniskirts and high-hopped hairdos, sets the stage for a red-robed monk and his killer whip in The College Girl Murders.” Other upcoming releases include such cult favorites as WEREWOLVES ON WHEELS, TERROR BENEATH THE SEA, THE FLESH EATERS (which will no longer be issued by Retromedia), HORROR OF PARTY BEACH, CURSE OF THE LIVING CORPSE, PSYCHOMANIA (aka VIOLENT MIDNIGHT), MAGIC (1978), and others. More information to follow as it develops.

Midnite Movies Mess!

We have been getting a flood of e-mails asking what’s going on with the March 22 MGM Midnite Movies releases. Well, we’re in the dark like everybody else and couldn’t get any concrete information. All we know is that the titles were released on March 22, but for some reason are only available for sale in Canada, not at U.S. Best Buy stores, or anywhere else in the U.S. for that matter. Three of the double features (FIREBALL 500/THUNDER ALLEY, THE MINI-SKIRT MOB/CHROME AND HOT LEATHER and MORONS FROM OUTER SPACE/ALIEN FROM L.A.), will be available everywhere on June 7, but there is no sign that the others (including PANIC IN YEAR ZERO!/THE LAST MAN ON EARTH and VOODOO ISLAND/THE FOUR SKULLS OF JONATHAN DRAKE) will be available for sale in the U.S. any time soon. We purchased our review copies from the Canadian site, DVD Soon. Our only suggestion is to order them from a Canadian retailer like DVD Soon, Amazon Canada, DVD Plus and others. This is turning out to be a real headache for the many fans of this series, but they are out there for sale, even if it is only in Canada. Let’s all hope for better things for the Midnite Movies series in future and that releases continue at some point.
